چکیده

This paper presents the development of a level control system using 3D machine vision techniques based on a single leveldetector sensor (Kinect), in an arrangement of three tanks. Using image processing algorithms, each one of the tanks is classified within the video sequence as well as each one of the depth measurements is averaged regarding the cross sectional area of the surface of the tanks. This information is used to control the filling level for each tank using a proportional fuzzy controller and a proportional-derivative fuzzy controller. The measured levels by the Kinect were compared to those obtained with an industrial level sensor, concluding that Kinect offers a good measurement precision besides some others inherent advantages like price and multi-sensing. Index terms Fuzzy control, level control, 3D vision, Kinect, image processing, ultrasonic sensor.

Safety Standard for Mobile Robots - A Proposal for 3D Sensors

In this paper we present a new and uniform way of evaluate 3D sensor performance. It is rare that standardized test specifications are used in research on mobile robots. A test rig with objects in the industrial safety standard Safety of industrial trucks driverless trucks and their systems EN1525 is extended by thin vertical and horizontal objects that represent a fork on a forklift, a ladder ...

Kinect Enabled Monte Carlo Localisation for a Robotic Wheelchair

Proximity sensors and 2D vision methods have shown to work robustly in particle filter-based Monte Carlo Locali-sation (MCL). It would be interesting however to examine whether modern 3D vision sensors would be equally efficient for localising a robotic wheelchair with MCL. In this work, we introduce a visual Region Locator Descriptor, acquired from a 3D map using the Kinect sensor to conduct l...

Comparison of Distance Measurement Between Stereo Vision and Ultrasonic Sensor

Problem statement: The traditional approaches in mobile robot research are the use of stereo vision systems to extract range information from pairs of images. One of the difficulties of techniques in navigation is that the intrinsic computational expense of extracting three dimensional information from stereo pairs of images. Approach: To compare performance sensor readings from environment bet...

Robust 3 D Acquisition Using Motion Contrast 3 D Scanning

Structured light 3D scanning systems are fundamentally constrained by limited sensor bandwidth and light source power, hindering their performance in real-world applications where depth information is essential, such as industrial automation, autonomous transportation, robotic surgery and entertainment. We present a novel structured light technique called Motion Contrast 3D scanning (MC3D) that...
